This page defines the guidelines currently used by ChatX to name IRC servers.

Client Servers
Those applying for a link should use this format, unless told otherwise.
Format: name.area.zone.chatx.net
Your server name may be anything you'd like, as long as it is not vulgar or obscene. It may be up to 30 characters in length; however, usually the shorter the better.
zone refers to the basic region of the world that the server is located in. Below is a list of allowable values for zone:
af | Africa (including South Africa) |
an | Antarctica |
ap | Asia-Pacific |
au | Australia |
ca | Canada |
eu | Europe (including former Soviet republics) |
la | Latin America |
us | United States |
area refers to the more specific region within the zone that your server is in. For Antarctic, Australian, Candaian and U.S. servers, area will be a two letter state/province abbreviation. For all other servers, area will be the two letter ISO code for the country your server is in.
Hub Servers
Format: name.hub.zone.chatx.net
Your server name may be anything you'd like, as long as it is not vulgar or obscene. It may be up to 30 characters in length; however, usually the shorter the better.
zone refers to the basic region of the world that the server is located in. Below is a list of allowable values for zone:

Special Servers
Special server links are approved by the Network Oversight Committee (NOC) and/or Admins Council, and have flags attached to the end of their name which signifies their purpose.
Format: name-flag.area.zone.chatx.net
Your server name may be anything you'd like, as long as it is not vulgar or obscene. It may be up to 30 characters in length; however, usually the shorter the better.
The flag is a letter or number that signifies why the server was linked. Below is a list of allowable values for flag.
