There are a number of different IRC clients for the Windows platform, some of which have inbuilt Ident support and some of which do not. Other than 16-bit versions of mIRC, all clients are assumed to be written for 32-bit versions of Windows (95,98, NT, ME, 2000, XP).
While we provide this information as a service to our users, ChatX cannot offer support with the installation or configuration of these packages. All requests for support must be directed to the appropriate vendor.
mIRC 16 & 32 bit versions
mIRC has a built in ident server which can be configured from within the client as follows :
- Open mIRC
- Click on the FILE menu then select OPTIONS.
- Click on the + sign beside CONNECT in the left hand pane of the options window.
- Click on Identd
- In the right hand pane, tick 'Enable Ident Server', 'Show Ident Requests' & 'Enable Only When Connecting'
- Fill in the User ID box with a User ID of your choice.
- WARNING - DO NOT ENTER A USER ID OF ROOT - you WILL be disconnected from ChatX if you do.
- Click OK to store your changes.
When you are finished, it should look like this (with your User ID in the correct box of course):
