Windows Ident

There are a number of different IRC clients for the Windows platform, some of which have inbuilt Ident support and some of which do not. Other than 16-bit versions of mIRC, all clients are assumed to be written for 32-bit versions of Windows (95,98, NT, ME, 2000, XP).

While we provide this information as a service to our users, DareNET cannot offer support with the installation or configuration of these packages. All requests for support must be directed to the appropriate vendor.

In This Guide:

mIRC 16 & 32 bit versions

mIRC has a built in ident server which can be configured from within the client as follows :

  • Open mIRC
  • Click on the TOOLS menu then select OPTIONS (or you can use 'Alt+O' to open this window).
  • Click on the + sign beside CONNECT in the left hand pane of the options window.
  • Click on Identd
  • In the right hand pane, tick 'Enable Ident Server', 'Show Ident Requests' & 'Enable Only When Connecting'
  • Fill in the User ID box with a User ID of your choice.
    • WARNING - DO NOT ENTER A USER ID OF ROOT - you WILL be disconnected from DareNET if you do.
  • Click OK to store your changes.

When you are finished, it should look like this (with your User ID in the correct box of course):

  • WARNING - DO NOT ENTER A USER ID OF ROOT - you WILL be disconnected from DareNET if you do.
  • Enable it

BitchX - Pre-compiled Binary Distribution

BitchX does not have an inbuilt ident server in this distribution. If you wish to use this version on DareNET you will require a stand-alone ident server.

VisualIRC (vIRC)

vIRC has a built in ident server which can be configured from within the client. Full details are here :

BisualIRC (bIRC)

We have been unable to confirm if this client has an inbuilt ident server. Users may need to use a stand-alone ident server to connect to DareNET.

These packages are currently supported by their respective authors and are both provided as freeware.

IDENTD

This is a freeware (GPL) ident server for Windows 95. 98, & NT. It may also work on Windows 2000 and ME however this has not been tested and cannot be guaranteed. Full instructions are included in the download package. Requires winzip to extract the files. Please note that this Ident Daemon is now unsupported by it's authors. If possible you should use one of the currently supported packages referenced above.

DareNET cannot provide any help or support with configuring Ident Daemons, you must refer all support queries to the package authors.
