Here is a brief reference guide designed for DareNET's support staff.

ChanServ / Channels

Information pertaining to ChanServ / channels.

Maximum number of entries the userlist may contain

200.

Maximum number of entries the lamers list may contain

100.

Maximum length a channel's user greeting may be

120 characters.

Maximum length a user's infoline may be

400 characters.

Can a channel owner give ownership to another user the same day he/she registers it?

No. The current owner will have to wait out the 24 hour period.

How long must you leave a channel before the infoline set with .uset info will be shown again?

Thirty (30) Seconds.

The minimum access level needed to set normal ChanServ notes?

Most notes only require an access of 200 or whatever has been set for the channel's setters level, which is 400 by default (see HELP SET SETTERS).

Can non-opers view a channel's ban list from outside the channel?

At this time, no.

Maximum number of channels a user can join?

50 channels.

Maximum number of entries a channel's ban list may contain?

100.

NOTE: If ChanServ's ADDBAN command is used and the channel's ban list is full, the ban will be added to the lamers list but won't be triggered until already existing bans are removed.

Maximum number of channels that a user may register?

Users may register up to fifteen (15) channels to a single account.

What is the maximum number of characters allowed in a channel topic or kick message?

250 characters.

How do you find out a channel's creation date?

Type /mode #channelname. It is not necessarily the same as the date the channel is registered on.

You will get something like this in your status window:

"#channelname created on Tue Oct 02 10:49:58 2007"

How do we remove OperServ from a channel?

Simply contact an IRC operator.

When do channels expire?

Registered channels are automatically unregistered after 30 days of inactivity, provided the nodelete option has not been set for the channel.

How often can a user change their password?

Once every three (3) days.

What is the hard limit for max logins?

It is currently set at four (4). If a user requires more than four clients logged into a single account at one time, they'll need to obtain an account trust.

How long does it take for a cookie to expire?

24 hours.

Maximum length for account names?

15 characters.

Maximum length for nicknames?

30 characters.

What commands can network helpers use that support helpers can't?

Additionally, they can ChanServ commands on +i/k/s channels or on channels where they lack access.

Who can see other helpers' stats?

Only trainers and higher.

What does OperServ's BLOCK command do?

It places a one (1) hour G-line on a host based on the nickname given.

What is #staff?

It is our official channel for all DareNET staff.

How do we check for the duration of a G-line manually?

How can you see everyone's weekstart?

Will the IRCd sourcecode or other sourcecodes be available for download to the public?

The code base for the IRCd we're using can be downloaded on sourceforge.net. However, we have forked from it and modified it some to allow us to provide a better experience for our users. These modifications are not currently public. The same applies for our Services.
