In order to operate the Site and to provide you with information about products or services that may be of interest to you, we may collect "personal information" (i.e. information that could be used to contact you directly (without using the Site) such as full name, postal address, phone number or email address), "financial information" (i.e. credit card numbers or passwords) or "demographic information" (i.e. information that you submit, or that we collect, that is neither personal information nor financial information; this may include, but is not limited to, zip code, postal code, hometown, gender, username, age/birth date, purchase history information, browsing history information, searching history information, registration history information, and the content of communications between you and other members over the Site), subject to the rest of this paragraph. Demographic information is divided into two categories: 1) "non-public information", which consists of purchase history information and one-on-one communications between you and other users of the Site; and 2) "public information", which consists of all other demographic information. We ask that you do not enter personal information or financial information into your Profile (for example, don't use your address or passcode as your username, or include your name or address in your written responses), because if you do then it may be posted publicly on the Site, and the information will then be treated as "demographic information" that is "public information." • Only staff who need personal information to perform a specific job (for example, a support operator) are granted access to it. All of our staff are kept up to date on our privacy and security practices.

Ways to Control Display and Use of Your Information

  • As stated previously, you can always opt not to disclose information, but then you may be unable to use certain features on our IRC network and website, such as registering channels, sending memos, posting to the forums.
  • By visiting your User Profile, you can correct, amend, add or delete personal information on our website. When you update information, however, we often maintain a copy of the unrevised information in our records.
  • You may request deletion of your DareNET account by e-mailing us at support@darenet.org, or by using NickServ's UNREGISTER command.
  • If you do not wish to receive e-mail from us or other DareNET users, please visit the Edit Options section of your User Control Panel and/or follow the instructions contained in the unwanted e-mail message. However, please note that you will continue to receive all system e-mails (e.g. those regarding forgotten user passwords) and legal notices (e.g. updates to our policies) from us.
  • As explained earlier, the "help" portion of the toolbar on the majority of browsers will direct you on how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, how to command the browser to tell you when you receive a new cookie, or how to fully disable cookies. Please note, however, that if your browser does not accept cookies, you will not be able to take advantage of some of our attractive features.

Children Under 18 Years of Age

You must be 13 years and older to register to use the DareNET website. As a result, DareNET does not specifically collect information about children. If we learn that DareNET has collected information from a child under the age of 13, we will delete that information as quickly as possible. We recommend that minors between the ages of 13 and 18 ask and receive their parents' permission before using DareNET or sending information about themselves or anyone else over the Internet.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

DareNET may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time, at its sole discretion. Use of information we collect now is subject to the Privacy Policy in effect at the time such information is used. If we make changes to the Privacy Policy, we will notify you by posting an announcement on the DareNET website so you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances if any, it is disclosed.

Conditions of Use

If you decide to visit the DareNET website and/or our IRC network, your visit and any possible dispute over privacy is subject to this Privacy Policy and our Acceptable Use Policy, including limitations on damages, and arbitration of disputes.

Effective Date of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy is effective as of November 28, 2008 and last updated November 28, 2008.
