Channel Closures

In This Guide:

What is channel closure?

A channel closure is when a DareNET staff member sets a badchan on a particular channel, which in turn closes the channel and disables all access to it. This action is used in extreme cases where a channel has repeatedly violated network policies and rules. It is a last resort, and never done before all other means of resolving the problem have been exhausted.

Why do DareNET staff close channels?

There are a number of reasons that may result in a channel being closed. The most common reasons are due to warring, spamming, and impersonation. However, severe violations of DareNET's policies and rules can result in a channel being closed. We highly encourage all users to review our Acceptable Use Policy (AUP).

Why was my channel closed?

As per the above question, if your channel has been closed it is because it has violated network rules. You probably will already have a good idea why it was closed, as we usually warn the channel owner at least once. In any case, send an email to abuse@darenet.org or join #support and we'll be happy to tell you why your channel was closed.

How long are channels closed for?

Generally, the first time a channel is closed it will be for 7 - 14 days. Repeated infractions will result in the channel being closed for longer durations, or permanently. Please keep mind that channel closures are handled on a case by case basis, so channels may be closed for more or less days than specified here.

My friend's channel was closed, can you tell me why?

Unfortunately, no. We respect our users' privacy. We will only disclose the reason(s) for a channel closure to the channel owner. There are NO exceptions to this policy, so please ask your friend instead.

Who closed my channel?

We do not disclose the name/nickname of the particular staff member who closed your channel. There are NO exceptions to this policy, please don't ask.

When will my channel be reopened?

It depends on the circumstances surrounding the closure. If you would like to know how long your channel will be closed, please email us at abuse@darenet.org or join #support and we'll be happy to tell you.

Will you close my channel for me? I don't want it anymore!

No. We only close channels as an absolute last resort to deal with severe violations of our network policies and rules. If you no longer desire to run your channel, consider passing it on to someone else or dropping it.

Will you close #CHANNEL for me? They keep breaking the rules!

No. We do not close channels on request. If you believe a channel is violating our network policies and rules, then you should email abuse@darenet.org or join #support to report it. We'll review your report, and take action if it's deemed necessary.
